# Admins/Mods Getting Temporary Permissions

Allow listed **Admins** and **Mods** who have successfully setup their 2FA authentication can gain **temporary permissions** using the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot. This allows those users to get admin permissions or advance permissions that should not be natively given.

When a successful 2FA Authentication is provided, the registered **Admins** or **Mods** can get these **temporary permissions** for a set period of time. When the time expires, permissions are automatically removed and a successful 2FA authentication must be re-entered to regain access.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Run the command

In `#zts-guard-admin`, type `/temporary-permissions` and select `authenticate.`

{% hint style="info" %}
**Admins** and **Mods** should have access to the `#zts-guard-admin` and `#zts-guard-logs` channel with `Use Application Commands` permissions so they can interact with the bot to use this command.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Enter ZTS Guard 2FA

Input your `ZTS Guard` 2FA code when prompted. Ensure you are entering the 2FA Code that you setup with the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot and not your Discord 2FA or other 2FA codes.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select permissions

Upon a successful 2FA authentication you will then see all possible permissions that you can choose within the embedded message.

Select `Get permissions` and then select which permission(s) you would like from the dropdown and hit `submit`. The permissions will then be granted and a confirmation message shows how long until the permissions are automatically removed.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you have a larger server, typically 250,000 users or more, this process may take up to 30 seconds to provide you with the permissions. Be patient.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Important note on role hierarchy

The way the user get's temporary permissions is by the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot creating a temporary role and assigning a the temporary role to the user and all channels.

{% hint style="info" %}
The temporary role is positioned just below the user's highest role in the hierarchy — even if that highest role has Admin permissions.

This is intentional and by design for Discord role hierarchy security reasons.
