# Setup 2FA Authentication App

{% hint style="info" %}
The **Server Owner (Cold Admin) is exempt** from 2FA setup. Only Admins and Mods need to complete this process.
{% endhint %}

Each **Admin** and **Mod** who needs access to the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot must set up 2FA using a compatible authenticator app. This setup is a one-time setup initially only, and does not need to be performed after the initial setup.

## Compatible authenticator apps

This bot uses `sha-512` encryption. **Only the following authentication apps are support this level of encryption and are compatible with the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot:**

* Google Authenticator
* Proton Authenticator
* Aegis Authenticator
* Bitwarden Authenticator
* LastPass Authenticator

{% hint style="danger" %}
Using an unsupported authenticator app can cause the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot to throw an error. Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, and Cisco Duo are **not** compatible as they do not support `sha-512` encryption for TOTP.
{% endhint %}

## Steps to setup 2FA

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the auth command

In `#zts-guard-admin`, type `/auth` and select `Setup TOTP`.

{% hint style="info" %}
This setup is for each individual Admin or Mod user to perform on their own user discord account.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Scan the QR code

Use your authenticator app (not your phone camera) to scan the QR code displayed.

A new entry labeled **ZTS Guard: (Your username)** will appear in your app. You can rename it to include the server name for easier identification.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Verify

After scanning the QR Code, and adding the new 2FA to your authenticator app. Click **Verify** and enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Always use this specific 2FA code — **not** your regular Discord 2FA code or other 2FA Code.
{% endhint %}

Your 2FA is now configured and ready to use whenever the bot prompts for authentication. This setup process is a one-time process and you will not have to go through this process again to use the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
It is common that users enter in their Discord 2FA Code which is their 2FA on their personal account, ensure when you interact with the `ZTS Guard` Discord Bot. It is the 2FA Code you specifically setup during this process for it to be succesfull, and naming it appropriately helps.
{% endhint %}
